Spazio Turin Plant - Summary |
 |
Alenia Spazio's
Turin Plant produces systems and subsystems for scientific
satellites, manned spacecraft and associated payloads, launch and
space transportation systems, with complete responsibility for
research and development, integration and testing.
.
The Turin plant
includes clean room environments and consolidated laboratory
capabilities:
- a 1100 m2
class 100.000 clean room for the assembly and integration of
space systems in which there is also an additional small (7 x
6.5 m) class 100 clean room, equipped with a seismic block,
for high accuracy alignment tests
and for the integration of optical payloads
- a Metrology
Laboratory joined to the S.I.T. (Italian Calibration
Organization)
- an Attitude
Control Simulation Laboratory
- a Software
Engineering Laboratory
- a
Thermo-mechanical Laboratory for structural and environmental
tests
- a Materials
and Processes Laboratory
The Materials
and Processes Laboratory has been operating in Turin since the
1920's. It is used in the development of aerospace programs, in
particular for the study of new materials and the preparation
and control of the main production processes. This encompasses
surface and heat treatments, coatings, sealing, welding, forming
and manufacturing of composite structures. The
laboratory has the capacity to carry out mechanical,
metallurgical, chemical and physical tests and non-destructive
controls on a wide range of materials: metals, composites,
adhesives, paints, rubbers, solvents, gasses, galvanic baths,
waters, etc.
