Star One ordered a new telecommunications satellite from Alcatel Space on October 5, 2001. The spacecraft will be positioned in geosynchronous orbit at 67°W. The satellite is the first in Brazil’s C-series.

Brasilsat C-1, based on an Alcatel SpaceBus 3000B3, will carry 44 high-power Ku-band transponders, providing multi-media and high-speed Internet capacity to South America.
