Canada licensed Telesat Canada on June 21, 2001 to design,
build and launch a new the C- and Ku-band communications
satellite, Anik F3, that will deliver a wide range of
telecommunications. Anik F3 will be positioned at 118.7°W. The
new satellite is to be launched by 2003. The bid was selected over
a rival proposal from Bird Satellite Communications Inc. that was
backed by Loral Space & Communications Ltd.
