Metsat
1 will support the India Meteorological Department by providing
meteorological services from geostationary orbit, including
cyclone warning dissemination services, meteorological data
collection and weather imagery on a continuous basis. The project
was approved by the Government in December 2000.
Metsat 1 will carry a
3-band very high-resolution radiometer, operating in visible,
thermal infrared and water vapor bands. It will also incorporate
data relay transponders.
