The
4660 kg (10,271 lbm) Echostar 8 is a Space Systems / Loral 1300
bus carrying 32 Ku-band transponders. EchoStar 8 primary operating
mode will provide 16 high-power national transponders at
approximately 250 watts RF and 25 spot beam transponders
distributed among 16 beams. The satellite was designed for a 15
year life. It will provide television broadcast services to
the continental US as well as Hawaii and Alaska. Echostar 8 is
owned and operated by Echostar Corporation. Echostar ordered the
spacecraft from Loral in March 2000.
