The
Italian Sicral 1 spacecraft will provide space-based
communications for the Italian Ministry of Defense, using 9
SHF, UHF and EHF Band transponders. The 2596 kg (5711lbm)
satellite was built by Alenia Spazio which provided the satellite
bus, FiatAvio which manufactured
the propulsion system, and Telespazio who has provided the ground
segment. The spacecraft is designed to operate for 10 years.
Beginning of life power is 3.280 kW. The stowed dimensions of the
satellite are 2.79 m x 3.43 m x 4.93 m (9.2 ft x 11.3 ft x 16.2
ft). The
satellite will be located at 16.2°E.
