Astra
2B was built by Astrium, Toulouse, based on a Eurostar 2000+ bus,
to be positioned at
28.2°E, over central Africa.
Société Européenne des Satellites (SES), Luxembourg owns and
will operate the satellite. Astra 2B, with 30 Ku-band
transponders, will provide radio, digital television, multimedia,
and internet services to customers in Europe. The 3315 kg (7293
lbm) satellite has an expected 15 year lifetime.
