Senate
Space Subcommittee Changes Leadership
Sen. George Allen
(R-Virginia) has replaced Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) as chairman
of the U.S. Senate authorization panel with NASA oversight.
Republicans on the
subcommittee are: Ted Stevens (Alaska); Conrad Burns (Montana); Kay
Bailey Hutchison (Texas) and Peter Fitzgerald (Illinois) and Trent
Lott (R-Mississippi). Democrats are: John Breaux (D-Louisiana), John
D. Rockefeller IV (West Virginia); John Kerry (Massachusetts); Byron
Dorgan (North Dakota); Max Cleland (Georgia); John Edwards (North
Carolina) and Jean Carnahan (Missouri).
Brownback
is leaving the subcommittee to chair the Senate Judiciary
immigration subcommittee, as well as the Foreign Relations Near
Eastern and South Asian affairs subcommittee. Senate rules only
allow two chairmanships.
