Delays Telstar 9 to Include Ka-band Transponders
Loral
Skynet, Bedminster, N.J., plans to add Ka-band transponders to its
planned Telstar 9 communications satellite. The Telstar 9 satellite,
being built by Space Systems/Loral, Palo Alto, Calif., will be
placed at the 93°W orbital slot, where it will replace Telstar 6.
Plans previously called for Telstar 9 to operate from a slot at 69°W.
Telstar 9 will also carry C- and Ku-band transponders. The changes
to Telstar 9 will delay delivery of the satellite until the first
quarter of 2004.
