FCC
Grants New Skies Access to U.S. Market
New
Skies Satellites NV has received final authorization from U.S.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to operate in the United
States. The comapny had been facing an August 2002 deadline to meet
certain conditions for access to the U.S. market or risk being
expelled. The key condition was a dilution of New Skies’
shareholdings inherited from Intelsat, which occurred through a
stock issue in October 2000. New Skies has access to several orbital
slots covering the United States.
