Exploring Observation Satellite
Norway's
Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt (FFI), Military Research Institute is
studying the development of a Norwegian observation satellite to
monitor high latitude regions. The spacecraft would collect imagery
and detect navigational radar systems giving Norway the capability
to monitor all military and civilian traffic, including traffic in
and out of the Russian naval ports around the Kola peninsula. The
project would cost around NOK 100 million (EUR12 million). The
satellite would be operational around 2007.
