Press reports
indicate that EarthWatch has selected Rockot to launch QuickBird 2
in August from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. QuickBird 2 has been
scheduled for launch aboard a Kosmos 3M, under a contract with
Russia's ZAO Puskoviye Uslugi through its U.S. agent United Start.
Eurockot Launch Services GmbH, which markets the Rokot, has not
confirmed these reports. The actual status of the launch contract is
unknown.
QuickBird
1 was lost on a Kosmos launch on November 20, 2000. The replacement
satellite, QuickBird 2 is being manufactured by Ball Aerospace.
