DirecTV,
subsidiary of General Motors,  signed
a contract with Ariane to launch DirecTV 4S.
The satellite will carry 38 high power Ku-band transponders
to broadcast direct-to-home services. The satellite is  Boeing
Satellite Systems BSS 601 HP. The satellite may be launched as early
as late this year. The satellite will be positioned at 101º W,
providing coverage to all of the United States.
