Kern county seized
Rotary Rocket’s assets in late December and was going to auction
them on January 10. Rotary Rocket Company wired Kern County
US$18,770 to cover its year 2000 taxes. That did not cover US$775 in
service fees that county officials had attached to Rotary Rocket's
bill. Upon learning so, Rotary Rocket mailed the county a check for
that amount. The minimum auction bid of US$55,917.48 was to cover
the property taxes owed for 2000 and 2001 plus the county's expenses
for the seizure and auction. It is still unclear whether Rotary will
be able to cover its 2001 taxes. The company also owes US$ 22,453 in
unpaid rent to the East Kern Airport District, the operator of the
Mojave Airport.
The company has
been struggling financially. In December work at the Mojave plant
ceased.
The
Roton, the company’s low-altitude test vehicle, was among the
assets seized and scheduled to be sold after Rotary Rocket Company
failed to pay its property taxes. The Rotary Rocket plant includes
two hangars - a high-bay hangar that housed the low-altitude test
vehicle and a smaller facility.
