Korea Publishes Launch Vehicle Development Budget
The South Korean
Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST) has announced that
US$4.26 billion (5.15 trillion won) will be invested in the
development of a national launch vehicle with the capability of
lofting a 1 ton payload to orbit to (presumably Sun-synchronous) by
2010. A further upgrade is planned with a payload capability
increased to 1,500 kg by 2015.
South
Korea has previously reported plans to develop a smaller vehicle
able to loft 100 kg of payload to low Earth orbit cirdca 2005. In
1996 Hyundai Aerospace, was reported to have begun development of a
vehicle designated HD-1L which was to be a 100 tonne, 30 meter long
vehicle, made up of three liquid oxygen/kerosene stages and four
solid strap-on boosters.
