FCC Adopts NGSO Ku-band Sharing Plan; SkyBridge License Closer

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted a First Report & Order, opening up the Ku-band spectrum (10-18 GHz) to Non Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellite systems. This removes the last major regulatory hurdle SkyBridge faces in receiving an FCC license. SkyBridge is working closely with the FCC and other applicants in order to expedite the NGSO (Non Geostationary Orbit) licensing process.

The First Report and Order confirms the sharing regime originally proposed by SkyBridge in 1997. It implements a regulatory framework for the operation of NGSO FSS systems in the United States, including rules governing the sharing of spectrum with existing geostationary satellite and terrestrial systems. The FCC order follows the confirmation by the international community of global availability of Ku-band spectrum to broadband systems like SkyBridge at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-2000).
