U.S.
to Renew Processing of Licenses for Launch on Chinese Rockets
China has
pledged to rigorously control its export of missile technology,
which has resulted in the U.S. agreeing to resume the processing of
licenses for
commercial
space launches by China. The U.S. also said it was waiving sanctions
on China for its past sales of missile technology to Iran and
Pakistan.
The
announcement came hours after the Chinese foreign ministry publicly
pledged not to help other states "in any way" to develop
ballistic missiles that can deliver nuclear weapons. Beijing also
promised to "improve and reinforce" its export control
system, adopting restrictions closely modeled on the international
Missile Technology Control Regime.
