Space to Change Hands
Sweden's
Saab Ericsson Space, Göteborg, Sweden, will acquire a 65% share in
the Netherland’s Fokker Space. The remaining shares will be
acquired by Stork. A letter of intent was signed and the deal is
expected to be concluded in early 2001. As a consequence of the acquisition,
Fokker Space will change its name to Dutch Space Industry BV (DSI).
Fokker Space was established as an independent company in 1995.
Fokker Space has 400 employees and US$ ? million (Euro 100 million)
in annual sales. Saab Ericsson Space employs 1,000 people.
Fokker
Space is a prime supplier of solar arrays, is also a specialist in
advanced robotics technology and is prime contractor of the European
Robotic Arm, which be deployed on the Russian segment of the
International Space Station. Fokker Space is also a major
contributor for the Ariane program as it provides thrust frames for
the Ariane 5 core cryogenic stage.
