Approves Metsat for 2001 Launch
India's
Cabinet has approved a proposal to build a weather satellite, Metsat,
to be launched in October 2001.
The
spacecraft will be built by India and launched from Sriharikota
using India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The small
satellite will be positioned in geostationary orbit. The estimated
cost of the satellite is US$16 million (750 million rupees). The
satellite design life will be five years.
