New
Skies to Lobby to Ease Satellite Technology Export Restrictions
New
Skies Satellites NV will lobby the U.S. Congress next year to ease
U.S. rules that limit exports of satellite technology. New Skies
will lobby in Washington seeking to make it easier to obtain
satellite technology which is not readily accessible to
foreign-based companies because of U.S. national security concerns.
New Skies is proposing that member countries of the North Atlantic
Treaty Organization (NATO) should be exempt or be able to go through
a streamlined application process. The Export Control Act and the
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) restricts the flow
of certain data and information unless the U.S. State Department
approves licenses allowing access.
