Gannett
and Space.com Join Forces
 Gannett
Co., Inc. and SPACE.com, Inc. announced the formation of a strategic
media partnership in which Gannett will become an equity investor in
SPACE.com and SPACE.com will acquire Gannett's space media
properties. Gannett and SPACE.com signed a definitive agreement in
which SPACE.com will acquire Space News, a weekly newspaper, and
spacenews.com, as well as FLORIDA
TODAY's Space Online website. Under the agreement, Gannett will
provide cash investment, and the marketing and promotional support
of its media
assets, including USA TODAY, and the company's regional newspapers,
broadcast outlets and internet properties, in exchange for an
interest in SPACE.com. The deal is expected to close in November.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Gannett
Co., Inc. publishes 99 daily newspapers in the U.S., including USA
TODAY, as well as in excess of 300 non-daily publications in the
U.S. Gannett also operates 22 television stations in the United
States. Most of Gannet’s TV stations and newspapers have internet
websites. In the United Kingdom, Gannett subsidiary Newsquest plc
publishes nearly 300 titles, including 15 daily newspapers.
