China
Orders Oceanic Observation Satellite
China's
State Oceanic Administration (SOA) has ordered an oceanic
observation satellite, Hai Yang 1, from the Chinese Academy of Space
Technology (CAST). The 340 kg satellite will be based on the CAST968
small satellite bus. It will be launched co-manifested on a CZ-4B in
2001. It is thought the co-passenger satellite might be Feng Yun 1D,
a polar weather satellite. SOA plans to launch similar satellites
every two years.
