Alcatel
Wins Contract To Build Turkish Spy Satellites
The Turkish
National Defense Ministry, after reopening competition, has selected
Alcatel Space to design and build two observation satellites for the
Turkish Intelligence Satellite Supply Project. The contract
under negotiation is reportedly worth US$250 million. Alcatel's bid
is likely based on its Isys design combining a high-resolution
imaging instrument with its Proteus small satellite bus.
Turkish
authorities had earlier selected Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd.
(IAI) with a bid valued at US$208-270 million, based on the Ofeq
design.
