Canaveral/Kennedy
Set Up One Stop Customer Service Spaceport Office
NASA’s Kennedy
Space Center and the U.S. Air Force Cape Canaveral launch facility
are establishing a single office to handle future launch
customers, with a goal to streamline their customer services. The
new office combines staff from the Kennedy Space Center and the 45th
Space Wing, located at Patrick Air Force Base. Rick Blucker, head
of the new Joint Planning and Customer Service office said,
“Customers are not coming to the Air Force or to Kennedy Space
Center. They will come to the spaceport.” The office is opening
in facilities at Patrick Air Force base, and employs 20 people.
The permanent office will be located at Cape Canaveral Air Force
Station.
Heritage programs
such as space shuttle, International Space Station, Delta 3 and
Atlas 2 will continue to receive their customer support via their
existing contacts. However, new programs, such as the Evolved
Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) program will use this new office.
This combined
office has its roots in the Joint Base Operations Support
Contract, which had integrated non-space related tasks, such as
fire, security and other standard base operations for Kennedy
Space Center and the Air Force. The office will also integrate
administrative functions from the state of Florida, NASA and some
aerospace contractors.
