Spacecom Ltd., Tel Aviv, has been authorized
to proceed with the raising of US$200 million to be used to build
and deploy Amos 2. Spacecom is securing funding through private
placement, and expects to issue an initial public offering (IPO).
The MBT division of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), Lod, is
expected to be contracted to build the satellite. The satellite is
planned for a mid-2002 launch.
IAI owns 25 percent of Spacecom. Other investors in
Spacecom include Gilat Communication Engineering Ltd., Tel Aviv,
General Satellite Services Co., Tel Aviv; and Mer Services Group
Ltd., Tel Aviv.
