A Proton
K/DM-2M rocket launched the Express 3A satellite
from Baikonur Cosmodrome at 5:28 pm PDT June 23 (0028 UTC June
24). The satellite is owned by Russian Satellite Communications
Company (RSCC), Moscow, but will be operated by
Intersputnik. The
2642 kg (4850 lbm) satellite was built by NPO Prikladnoi Mekhaniki
(NPO PM), Krasnoyarsk, with the communications payload provided by Alcatel
Space. The satellite has 12 C-band, and 5 Ku-band transponders,
with 2.540 kW power, and an expected life of 10 years. The
satellite will be located at 11°W, replacing Gorizont 26, also
known as Stasionar 11.
