Brazil
plans to invest at least US$40 million on seaport facilities to
further develop the Alcantara launch site. Construction began at
the Alcantara site in 1986, and Brazil has invested over $US300
million in the spaceport to date. Because of its location near the
equator, Brazil expects to sign agreements shortly to initiate
commercial launches from the site.
The
new port will be able to accommodate large ships carrying rockets
to Alcantara. The project should take less than two years to
complete.
