Announces Formation of Space Solid Fuel Rocket Carrier Company
China has formed
a new company, Space Solid Fuel Rocket Carrier Co. Ltd. (SSRC), to
research, develop and manufacture solid propellant rockets, and
market their launch services commercially.
Development of the SLV-1 solid
propellant rocket will be based on the technology of the Dong Feng
(East Wind) ballistic missile. One advantage of a solid propellant
rocket is that loading of solid fuel and oxidizer’s can be
prepared prior to arriving at the launch site. The SLV-1 would be
able to respond to customer requests to launch a small satellite
in as little as 12 hours. The launch equipment is mobile and can
launch from land, a sea-launching platform, or an airplane. The
launch service will target micro-satellites that are under 300 kg.
SSRC is a joint venture between the
Machinery and Electronics Engineering Integrated Design Department
and the China Space Machinery and Electronics (Group) Company in
Beijing. Other partners include the Space Solid Fuel Rocket
Propulsion Technology Research Institute, the Controls and
Electronics Technology Research Institute in Beijing, and the
Chenguang (Group) Co. Ltd. in Nanjing.
