LDM - Logistics Double Module Logo

The SPACEHAB Logistics Double Module (LDM), completed in 1995, was the workhorse of the ISS Phase I program. With a payload capacity of 10,000 pounds in 2,200 cubic feet, the LDM is optimized for transferring cargo to and from the Space Station. The LDM contains 4 double racks, 65 locker positions and subfloor accommodations to optimize space usage.


SPACEHAB Logistics Double Module

LDM Technical Characteristics:

  • Dimensions: 20 feet long, 14 feet wide, 11.2 feet high.
  • Volume: 2200 cubic feet (holds up to 61 Space Shuttle middeck lockers plus four double racks; additional subfloor stowage is available).
  • Launch weight (module plus contents): Approximately 20,000 pounds (STS-101: launch weight approximately 18,000 pounds; payload ascent weight approximately 8,000 pounds module tare weight 10,000 pounds).
  • Power (on orbit): 3000 W DC
    690 VAC
  • Heat Rejection (on orbit): 4000W
  • Viewports: 0 to 3
  • Locker Capability: 42 to 62
  • Four external rooftop stowage locations (500 lb at each location)
  • Four double-rack locatons (two powered)
  • Floor storage for large unique items and Soft Stowage®
  • Boeing-Huntsville developed the LDM for SPACEHAB and serves as the Company’s mission integration contractor.
