Kazakhstan is pushing development of a
new Russian-Ukranian-Kazakh rocket which would be called
Sodruzhestvo carrier rocket. The Sodruzhestvo would use facilities
at the Baikonur Cosmodrome
previously used for Energia-Buran. The Sodruzhestvo project is
included in the joint Russian-Kazakhstan space program budget for
2000-2005. However,
neither Ukraine nor Russia have sufficient funds
for the project to begin, and are currently seeking sources of
financing for the project.
The cost of the project has been budgeted at US$
170 million, but Kazakh officials estimate it will more likely
cost about US$ 300 million.
