ICO Insurance Coverage

Global Communications secured its insurance for the 12-satellite
constellation through insurance broker J & H Marsh &
McLennan for US$77 million, in the fall of 1998. The insurance
package, which covers five years, provides for more than US$200
million in insurance coverage for the manufacture and launch of
replacements for each satellite loss, after the first two. The
insurance coverage for this flight has a reported value of US$225
million. ICO is launching 12 satellites, using a mix of four types
of launch vehicles. Since the satellite was not delivered
on-orbit, as contracted, the satellite title remains with
Hughes.
