INDIA'S FIRST TEST FIRING OF CYROGENIC ENGINE FAILS

India's first test firing of its indigenously built 7.5-tonne engine, using liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen failed. The test had to be aborted at 15 seconds instead of the planned duration of 30 seconds. The test marks the beginning of a series of ground qualification trials of the engine that will be carried out during the next several months. Indian Space Research Organization's engineers plan to analyze the data generated during the aborted test to pinpoint the anomaly and take corrective action. India, which has been working on the project for the past seven years, has been developing its own cryogenic engine from scratch, following Russia's denial of the technology under pressure from the United States. This will not affect this year’s planned first launch of the GSLV.
