Wins Thuraya 2 Sea Launch Contract / Thuraya 3 Spacecraft Contract

Thuraya Satellite
Telecommunications Company, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, has
signed a contract with Sea
Launch to launch Thuraya 2 in January 2003. Thuraya 2 will be
enhanced by approximately 10% more electrical power over its
predecessor (Thuraya 1), resulting in a longer lifespan for the
satellite. Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications also announced
the signing of a contract with Boeing Satellite Systems to proceed
with the construction of Thuraya 3. No financial details for
either transaction were disclosed
Thuraya 3 will be
based on the Boeing GEM (GEO-Mobile) communications spacecraft
bus. No launch date or other technical information were disclosed.
Boeing
has a 40% partnership stake in Sea Launch Company, LLC.
