Successfully Launches Express A1R

A Proton K/DM-2M
successfully launched an Express A1R from Baikonur Cosmodrome at
0144 UTC on June 10. The spacecraft will be positioned in
geostationary orbit at 40°E.
Intersputnik and the Russian Satellite Communications Company will
both use the spacecraft capacity and capabilities.
The 2586 kg (5700
lbm) spacecraft bus was manufactured by NPO Prikladnoy Mekhaniki.
Express A1R is the third and last of the successfully launched
next-generation Express A series spacecraft. A third-generation
Express AM is now in development. The spacecraft has 12 C-band and
5 Ku-band transponders to carry television and radio broadcasting,
mobile telephony, data transmission, video conferencing and
high-speed Internet services. Alcatel Space provided the
communications payload. The spacecraft has a design life of 7
years.
