Shin Satellite
PCL, Bangkok, has selected Arianespace to launch iPSTAR, its
fourth satellite. The spacecraft is scheduled for launch in late
2003. The launch cost will not exceed US$90 million. Shin
Satellite is investing $US350 million in the project. The
spacecraft will be located at 120°E.
Shin
Satellite ordered the spacecraft from Space Systems / Loral in
August 2000. The LS 1300 SX satellite is expected to have a launch
mass of 6300 kg (13,885 lbm), with a 12 year design life and
14.000 kW EOL (end-of-life) power. The satellite is configured to
carry 87 Ku-band transponders and 10 Ka-band transponders.
