Proton Successfully Launches Intelsat 903

A Proton K/DM3 successfully launched Intelsat 903 from Baikonur Cosmodrome, LC81/23, at 17:25 UTC on March 30. The spacecraft will be positioned at 325.5°E over the Atlantic to provide internet, broadcast, voice and data services. The Intelsat 601 currently positioned at 325.5°E orbital slot will be relocated to 178°E.

The 4726 kg (10,416 lbm) LS 1300 spacecraft was built by Space Systems/Loral of Palo Alto, Calif. The spacecraft carries 72 C-band and 22 Ku-band transponders. The spacecraft has 8.6 kilowatts of power (beginning of life) and a design life of 13 years.

Two more spacecraft, Intelsat 905 and Intelsat 906, are scheduled for launch on Ariane rockets later this year, with the final spacecraft in the series, Intelsat 907, set to launch on an Ariane early in 2003.
