Rosviakosmos
(Russian Space Agency) announced that on December 3 it expects to
sign a contract with Mark
Shuttleworth, 28, Cape Town, South Africa, to become the
second space tourist to fly to the International Space Station (ISS).
He will participate in a 10-day flight to the ISS using a Russian
Soyuz spacecraft. Dennis Tito reportedly paid US$20 million for
his tourism flight to ISS in April 2001.
Shuttleworth
would fly with a Russian cosmonaut and Italian astronaut Roberto
Vittori. Vittori’s flight is scheduled for April 2002. The
Italian space agency is reportedly paying Russia about
US$12.5 million for the training and flight on board the
Soyuz spacecraft.
