Launches Molniya Satellite
A
Molniya M successfully launched a Molniya 1K satellite from
Plesetsk Cosmodrome, LC43/4, at 0017 UTC (5:17 p.m. PDT July 19)
on July 20. The military communications satellite was placed into
a 12-hour elliptical orbit, referred to as a Molniya orbit. This
is the first flight of the Molniya 1K series satellites. The
Molniya M rocket is a variant of the Soyuz rocket family.
