Cablevision
Contracts With Lockheed Martin for DBS Satellite
Cablevision
Systems Corp., Bethpage, NY, signed a contract with Lockheed
Martin for a Ku-band A2100 direct-broadcast satellite for
delivery in 2003. Cablevision signed the manufacturing contract in
order to retain a satellite
operating license issued by the U.S. Federal Communications
Commission (FCC). The FCC issued that license to R/L DBS Co. LLC,
a company controlled by Cablevision.
According to a
10-Q quarterly report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) May 15 Cablevision’s license calls for the
satellite to be launched by late 2003 with satellite delivery
scheduled in May 2003.
Cablevision
is leaving its options open as it considers entering into the U.S.
direct-to-home television market.
