Delta 4 Announces Contract to Launch Indonesian M2A

More Information:

PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara’s (PSN) has selected Boeing’s Delta 4 to launch its MultiMedia Asia (M2A) satellite in mid-2003. The M2A satellite will be launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida aboard a medium-class commercial variant of the Delta 4, Delta 4M+ (5,4). The M2A satellite is being built by Space Systems/Loral, Palo Alto, Ca., using an LS-1300 bus, and is intended to provide high-speed data transmission services to users in Asia. The satellite originally was intended for launch in 1999, but the project was delayed because of the financial crisis that hit the Asia Pacific region.

Though this is the first publicly announced commercial contract to use the Delta 4, the launch is unlikely to be the first Delta 4 mission. Boeing is under contract to launch several U.S. Air Force satellites using the Delta 4 starting in 2002. Boeing has said numerous commercial Delta 4 launches are on order, but until now has not disclosed any customers
