Ariane to Launch Astra 3A for SES

Arianespace
announced that a contract has been signed with Societe Europeenne
des Satellites S.A. (SES) to launch a Boeing built Astra 3A
telecommunication spacecraft on an Ariane 5 heavy-lift vehicle.
Astra 3A is to be launched by an Ariane 5 in early 2002 from
Kourou, French Guiana.
Astra
3A is being built by Boeing Satellite Systems, El Segundo, Ca. The
satellite will use a BSS 376 HP bus fitted with 20 active
transponders (21 at beginning of service). Designed for a minimum in-orbit
life of 10 years, Astra 3A will be positioned at 23.5°E. It will
provide service continuity for Deutsche Telekom's DFS Kopernikus 3
satellite.
