Signs with Ariane to Launch e-Bird

Arianespace
and Eutelsat signed a launch contract for the new e-Bird satellite.
e-Bird will be launched by an Ariane 5 in the second quarter of
2002 from Kourou in French Guiana. It will be positioned in
geostationary orbit
at 25.5°E, above Central Africa. The satellite,
based on a Boeing BSS 376 will carry 20 active Ku-band
transponders providing coverage over the European region using
four spot beams. e-Bird will have an operating lifetime of about
10 years.
