Echostar Signs With ILS for Atlas and Proton Launches

EchoStar Orbital Corporation, has signed an agreement with International Launch Services (ILS) to provide launch services for the EchoStar 7 and EchoStar 8 satellites, and includes options for launch services for additional satellites through 2006. EchoStar 7 and EchoStar 8 each will be capable of operating 32 Ku-band transponders, switchable to 16 transponders operating in a high-powered mode. Financial terms were not disclosed.

EchoStar 7 is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year on a Lockheed Martin Atlas 3B launch vehicle from Cape Canaveral, Fla. EchoStar 7, which will operate from 119°W, is being designed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems in Sunnyvale, California, using the A2100AX bus.

EchoStar 8 is expected to launch during the first quarter of 2002 on a Russian Proton K/DM3 launch vehicle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. EchoStar 8, which will operate at 110°W, is being designed and manufactured by Space Systems/Loral in Palo Alto, California, based on a high-powered FS 1300 satellite bus.

EchoStar, Littleton, Colo., has the capability to offer 500 channels of digital video and CD-quality audio programming on its DISH Network satellite TV system.
