Telesat Canada Announces Anik F2 Order Of Hughes HS-702

Telesat Canada has contracted for an HS-702 from Hughes Space and Communications Company (HSC). Anik F2 will offer fixed satellite services, including Internet access and multimedia services, across North America. Anik F2 is scheduled to launch sometime in late 2002. Anik F2 will operate from Telesat Canada's orbital slot of 111.1°W. Anik F2 will have 108 active transponders, 52 Ka-band transponders, 24 C-band transponders and 32 Ku-band transponders and deliver 14 kilowatts of end-of-life payload power. Financial terms were not disclosed. Telesat Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of BCE Inc, a member of the BCE Media group. Boeing has made an offer to acquire Hughes, which is expected to be completed this summer.
