Proton K/DM3 successfully launched GE-6 from Baikonur Cosmodrome
at 0451 UTC on October
22 (9:54
p.m. PDT, October 21). The telecommunications satellite
will be positioned at 72º
W.
The
3909 kg (8615 lbm) satellite
was designed and built by Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems
(LMCSS) for GE American Communications (GE Americom). The satellite is based on the A2100 bus. The satellite is
equipped with 24 C-band and 28 Ku-band transponders. The Ku-band
transponders will be dedicated to a Direct-to-Home application.
The satellite has a design life of 15 years.
