Proton Launches GE-1A For GE Americom

More Information:

A Proton K/DM4 successfully launched GE 1A from Baikonur Cosmodrome, at Complex 81, pad 23, at 2200 UTC (3:00 pm PDT) October 1. The satellite will be operated by Americom Asia-Pacific, LLC, which is a joint venture formed by GE American Communications, Inc. and Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications at 108oE.

The 3593 kg (7,831 lbm) GE 1A spacecraft carries 28 Ku-band transponders which are configured into three beams that will allow 8 to 16 transponders to cover China, 8 to 16 transponders to cover Northeast Asia/Philippines and up to 8 for South Asia. The satellite was built by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Sunnyvale, using the A2100AX bus with an expected design life of 15 years. The stowed dimensions of the spacecraft are approximately 3.1 m x 2.5 m x 6.1 m.
