Zenit
2 Launches Russian
Military Satellite
A Zenit 2 rocket launched a classified
Russian military satellite from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Site 45, at
10:10 UTC (3:10 a.m. PDT) on September 25. The two-stage Zenit-2
rocket's payload shroud jettisoned 4 minutes and 58 seconds after
the launch. The Russian Ministry of Defense identified the
spacecraft as Kosmos-2372. No other mission details were
disclosed. Suggestions into the payload manifest revealed the
satellite may be an imaging reconnaissance bird. It was reported
that the Russian Strategic Missile Troops (RVSN) dedicated the
launch to Russia's second cosmonaut, Gherman Titov, who passed
away September 20th.
