Space
Systems/Loral, a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications,
signed an agreement with Sea Launch on July 26 to launch Loral
Skynet’s Telstar 8 satellite in 2002. The 5500 kg (12,125 lbm)
Telstar 8 will be positioned at 154°W.
The satellite, based on Loral’s LS 1300 bus, will carry 92
transponders with a total end-of-life power of 16 kW. The payload
will include Ku-band, C-band, and Ka-band transponders, providing
coverage across North and South America.
