GE Americom Orders Satellites From Alcatel Space
Alcatel Space has signed a contract
to build four satellites for GE American Communications Inc. (GE
Americom). The contract value was not disclosed. (Space News
r eports
GE Americom signed three contracts for seven satellites with the
value for all of the contracts exceeding US$1 billion.) The
satellites will use the Spacebus 4000. With an estimated mass of
4.5 to 5.5 metric tons, the satellites will be built in Cannes and
Toulouse (France). The satellites are to be delivered starting in
late 2002, continuing into mid-2003. Alcatel Space will also be
responsible for the LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase)
operations, IOT (In-Orbit Tests) and operator training with an
Alcatel Space-supplied dynamic simulator.
